The members of First Baptist Church of Crystal Springs, Mississippi who recently drew cultural scrutiny of their Christian witness after preventing an African American couple from wedding at the church has offered an apology and asked for forgiveness. Dean of the School of Theology at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, Russell D. Moore said of the incident, “A church that prized carnal divisions over color of skin or cultural background is a church that isn’t finding its identity outside of the flesh and in a Jewish Messiah seated at the right hand of God.” I am certainly grateful for the change of heart and am praying that their actions will change the minds of Christians around the world concerning the place of race in the Church.
